Call to Order: Quorum confirmed
RC reported that there are currently 30 registrations through Eventbrite for the “Come Home to Henley” night during Henley. He encouraged all Board members to purchase a ticket for the event. Bar service has been arranged. Food will include hamburgers and sausage on the BBQ, accompanied by salads and other edibles. The Recreational Rowing League BBQ crew will be managing the BBQ. A list of donor names will be created and posted so that everyone can see who has contributed to the HRR2020 fundraising to date.
The RowOntario Board has three director positions open for nominations. Janet Lancaster and Jim Marino have been nominated. BoD members are encouraged to lobby for Janet and Jim with other rowing clubs
RC has asked Mark Welsh to be the Team Manager for HRR2020 and MW has agreed to take on this task.
Matt Hingston has received approval to purchase eavestrough materials this summer/fall with the goal of repairing/replacing them before the end of this rowing season.
RC thanked Michele Fisher for her work on the Club contact list/database, but stated that a second person is needed to assist MF with marketing activities. TN suggested that a newsletter-type communication would be a good way to market the club and inform members about the activities taking place. She reminded the Board about a newsletter that was produced by Jane Jarvis several years ago.
MF and RC have met with Eileen MacRae who has asked to help the club with volunteer activities. Eileen will assist with the “Come Home to Henley” event.
RC is concerned that the Club will not reach its HRR2020 target of $75000 if we don’t find some big dollar sponsors soon. He encouraged all Board members to begin looking for potential sponsors. We also need to know soon if the crews will be 4’s or 8’s so that accommodation and travel estimates can be created. Hudson Boat Company needs to know about boats by early spring. RC would like to invite Sir Matthew Pinsett http://www.matthewpinsent.com/ spokesperson for HRR2019, as a guest speaker to a fall or spring fundraiser. There would be no speaker fee, but the club would have to pay for accommodation and travel.
RC suggested that in order to increase the number of local rowers and Club membership, SCRC should sponsor a “Bring a Friend to Rowing” day in September. Similar to the Try-it-Days normally held in the fall, this event would ask existing competitive rowers to bring a friend for an afternoon. A date of September 22 was initially suggested.
RC circulated a letter from the HIH president announcing that the Henley Island Helpers organization will be wrapping up operations at the end of the 2019 season due to lack of volunteers to participate and manage the organization’s activities.
MW is anticipating an excellent Henley week as SCRC rowers appear to be better/faster than previous years.
Nancy Love has agreed to take over as lead for organizing the Captain’s Dinner for Fall 2019 after Stephanie Brooks asked to withdraw from that duty.
LH indicated that everything is in place for the Coaches BBQ and reminded Board members to confirm their attendance with her via email.
Kathy Powell continues to work with the rowers’ parents at providing the SCRC tent food/beverage/shelter during off site regattas.
